Mykola Tomenko: Due to the Resolution of the Constitutional Court, the Parliament downgraded to the Fifth Place by the Authority in Decision-Making

Mykola Tomenko, Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, made this statement in the interview to Inter television channel.

The Deputy Chairman reminded that the suggested amendments to the Standing Orders of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine not only deprived the parliamentary opposition of its authorities, but also excluded the term ‘opposition.´ M. Tomenko is convinced that the level of parliamentary authority is determined by the scope of the opposition authorities. "The initiators of the amendments to the Standing Orders that eliminated the remnants of the opposition and the operating tools of the parliamentary minority, did an ill service to the Parliament itself, as the tendency to reduce parliamentary authorities in general is obvious. Thus, it will narrow the authority of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, placing it in the political suburbs", Mykola Tomenko emphasised.

The Deputy Chairman of the Parliament also stated that by the authorities in the decision-making process, the President occupied the first place, while the Prime Minister occupied the second place, being followed by the Cabinet of Ministers and, finally, the Parliament.

Asked about the plans of the opposition due to the loss of its status, the Deputy Chairman declared: "We will use any opportunity to make our inquiries and control the authorities by setting up the ad hoc panels."
